Hyundai reveals plug-in hybrid concept; 35 days to go

We are exactly five weeks away from the 2009 BC Provincial Election.

In addition to the various political party links I put on the side, I also added links to the Yes STV and No STV websites. Obviously, changing the way we conduct elections is a very big decision and a very important one. Please do the research necessary to come to a reasonable conclusion.

So Hyundai has recently unveiled their new plug-in hybrid car, the Blue-Will. This 152 HP piece of machinery, in addition to being insanely high-tech (solar panels on the roof to operate fans to keep the car cool while parked? Trapping heat, turning it into electricity and using it to power auxiliary systems? Way cool!), this bad boy goes 100 km on 2.2 litres of gas (106 MPG) and can go 64 km on a single charge.

If you were watching the news yesterday, you probably saw Mayor Gregor Robertson rolling around in a plug-in car as well. Robertson and the Province will each test one Mitsubishi iMiEV (Mitsubishi Innovative Electric Vehicle). The iMiEV is a 63 horsepower, purely electric vehicle that can reach speeds of up to 130 km/hr. Given that less than 10% of trips in Vancouver are over 30km, a purely electric vehicle is definitely an option for city-dwellers. The car is set to be ready for release in Japan this summer. This is not a concept car, this is the real deal. And, as long as the electric source is green, this is definitely a zero-emissions vehicle.

Another press release out on a subject I already mentioned, except this time it’s a twelve-person crew, runs just under $300,000, and is in Golden instead of Valemont. The release doesn’t mention preventing forest fires, but removing dead trees reduces the odds of a fire, so it’s kind of a given if you think about it.
