Robertson repeals support for Premier? And more – 25 days

Interesting article today; according to 24 hours, Mayor Robertson has disavowed his lauding of Premier Campbell. The event in question was probably the biggest news item of the day across the province, and for good reason: he was a NDP MLA, and many saw him as being their golden boy. For him to come out and his former enemy Gordon Campbell was nothing but surprising.

Like I said, it was incredibly unlikely that Mayor Robertson was endorsing Campbell, and like I said, people were blowing it out of proportion. And sure enough someone from the Mayor’s office told The Tyee:

“The mayor is not endorsing the premier and we did not give permission to use the quote in campaign materials.”

This is in obvious reference to the BC Liberal’s platform, which quotes the Mayor in his lauding of the Premier and the carbon tax. So there you have it folks – the Mayor does not endorse the Premier. But he does fully support the carbon tax, which is something Carole James does not support at all. But, say what you want, Gregor Robertson’s support of the carbon tax is, at the end of the day, support for Campbell and not for James.

I was looking for something else this morning in google and stumbeld upon some interesting quotes from Bruce Ralston and Bob Simpson:

“The NDP won’t repeal carbon tax if they run the province” – Bruce Ralston, NDP MLA for Surrey-Whalley; CKNW 9:02 am – Feb 20, 2008

“ . . . you have to go to a carbon tax. …My sense is it’s the only way to go. …If we truly believe that the market is the way to change behaviour, both market behaviour and individual behaviour, it’s the way to do it.” – Bob Simpson, NDP MLA for Cariboo North, Voice of BC, Nov 01, 2007

…that seems to fly in the face of what Carole’s been telling us recently.

ZeroCarbonCanada star Tzeporah Berman has recently withdrawn her membership from the New Democratic Party. Again, I wouldn’t take this as her becoming a die hard Liberal like Gregor Robertson didn’t. But as long as the BC Liberals stay green, I think they’ll have her support.

Keith Baldrey said what countless others have been saying : NDP sells environmental soul. A very well written article, he mentions noted environmentalists and groups such as Tzeporah Berman, the David Suzuki Foundation, and “a man who was a key energy adviser to the NDP government of the 1990s” — SFU Professor Mark Jaccard.

To be perfectly honest, the NDP have some ok ideas when it comes to the environment, but they are not the right party to represent the environment.

Just a quick reminder, Earth Day 2009 is on April 22nd this year (just a day after my last final!). There are numerous events across the province, so be sure to do something green! Try to plan an entirely green day; take transit in to work or school (hopefully you do that already), or even better, bike or walk. Bag an Earth-friendly lunch (in a reusable lunch bag!), have an Earth-friendly dinner in with friends and family (a potluck is always great!) and consider planting a tree or two to cap off the night!

On Earth day, Disney is releasing its first DisneyNature film, aptly called Earth. To be perfectly honest… I really want to watch it. Sorry, I’m a sucker for Disney films (one of my favourite films of all time? WALL-E!).

Stellar ad by the folks over at VoteSmart BC – check it out.

Stuff on the Liberal platform later today.

    Howdy!

Yes, the preview for ‘earth’ looks good, but guess what, the whole movie is just excerps of an entire BBC series called Planet Earth that is fantastic! There are 11, 50 minute episodes, I’ve been renting them at my local movie store but you can download them too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planet_Earth_(TV_series)

    HOpe you like it!

I didn’t know that! I looked it up a bit and apparently 60% is cut from Planet Earth (own the DVDs!)… wouldn’t mind seeing it on the big screen though.

Bit of a let-down; ah well!

Oops, I stand corrected, haha. It did look impressive on the big screen. That shot of the shark eating the seal is unreal.
